True to what the region has come to be known for ‘The Barossan’ is a quintessential expression of Barossa Shiraz.

This vibrant warm climate shiraz shows aromas of juicy red cherry, offset with a touch of mocha oak. Rich and full on the palate, look for notes of ripe red fruit with long balanced tannins.

Displaying lively dark cherry aromas overlaid with oak nuances of mocha and vanilla bean. The rich and generous dark fruit spectrum on the front and mid palate is classic Blackwell.

A superb wine - perfectly blended to create a seamless, deep and complex blend with silky tannins and excellent cellaring potential. A selection of thirteen vineyards sourced from a diverse spread of sub regions ranging from near Williamstown in the far south to Ebenezer in the far north of the Barossa are utilised. Vineyards are concentrated in the far south and north of the Barossa Valley to drive the style required for St Hugo. The diversity of this fruit sourcing is to achieve the 'power' from low yielding, mature Shiraz vines and 'elegant' parcels from vineyards showing more restraint and structure.

The wine has a wonderful aroma displaying dark plum, redcurrant and red cherry fruits along with subtle chocolate and a touch of oak derived spice. The palate is plump & generous with ripe fruit characters of plum, cherry and redcurrant. Mocha coffee and subtle aniseed characters are also present along with vanillan oak to balance the fruit flavours. The wine is medium-bodied with a soft mid-palate & pleasing tannin structure. It is a well balanced wine with great texture, good length and enjoyable fruit flavours on the finish.

This Syrah includes a touch of Viognier, a traditional winemakeing technique in France's Rhone Valley. It introduces a delightful floral aroma and supple texture to Syrah's spicy dark berry flavours.
